The Marketing Manager, |
I'm New around here
so let me introduce myself:
I'm Bhavan's DIMDIMA,
the new magazine for children.
I have something for everyone—for the eight-year-olds, the sixteen-year- olds and for all the ages in between! I even have a page for teachers and a page for parents.
I carry jokes, stories, comics, science features, biographies, information on sports, contests...
What? Did somebody say something?
Oh! That was my editor. He says the content page is right next door so there's no need for me to go on and on. These editors never give me a chance to talk! They want everything to be told in one sentence or less.
It's so maddening!!
As this is our first meeting
you may find me somewhat restrained.
You might even find me wanting in some department.
You may want more of one thing and less of another,
or you might want something entirely new.
You might find me too serious,
or too frivolous, or God forbid! Even boring!
Well, I'm open to suggestions.
I want to be your friend and friends have to give and take. Take as much as you want from me but give me your feedback so that I can improve myself.
You might be wondering why I'm called DIMDIMA.
Well, I'm wondering too!
They could have found a better name for me.
But I'm told it has a great tradition dating back to the times when victory in battle was heralded by the beat of drums.
DIMDIMA is the Sanskrit word for 'drumbeat'.
Message From Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam received the inaugural issue of DIMDIMA, the new children’s monthly launched by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. At a simple function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday 25th of February 04, Dr. Kalam released the Bhavan’s new children’s periodical.
YES. I met Dr. Kalam.
I went, I saw and I was won over by a frail man with long hair and a BIG HEART.
The house where he lives is huge. I had to pass through several security rings before I could reach him. I got through because Dr. Kalam loves children and children love me (don't you? I would simply fall apart if you said you didn't!).
Dr. Kalam said he was happy that children have found a friend like me, or something of that sort. I was so awed by his presence that for a while nothing that he was saying registered. I just gaped. He liked my looks. No doubt about it. He held me close and asked the photographer to take snaps. I was thrilled when he said he would visit me in cyberspace to take a look at my Internet version.
Dr. Kalam expressed confidence in the children of our country. Our kids can achieve anything, he asserted, adding that they should not bother too much about how badly some of the grown ups in public life behave but instead resolve to be clean in their own dealings with others. That made me feel good because I’m both fun to be with, and clean. Don’t you agree?
Message From Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat
I am happy to know that Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is bringing out a Journal 'Dimdima' exclusively for the student community. The Bhavan's previous publications like the Bhavan's Journal, Navneet and Samarpan have been rendering invaluable service to readers in English, Hindi and Gujarati languages. Publishing a Journal 'Dimdima' is indeed a good beginning to cater to the varied requirements of the student community through various genre of writings. My best wishes for the success of the Journal.
