Glowing tributes were paid by speakers to renowned Kannada litterateur U. Rananthamurthy at a function in Bhavan's Khincha hall on September 9. The memorial for the Jnanpeeth awardee who passed away recently was jointly organised by Bhavan's Bangalore Kendra, Ananya, Doordarshan and Akashwani.
In a composite programme titled 'Anantha Namana', Dr. R V. Raghavendra, Director of Ananya, described him as an upright and straight forward person. Well known artist S. G. Vasudev who was the art director for 'Samskara', a film based on Ananthamurthy's story, praised him for his liberal outlook and genial persona.
An exhibition of paper cuttings related to URA in the past 25 years collected by Shri Jayaram, clicked and his photographs, at several functions by Shri Rajaram, formed part of the function. N. Pavan Rangachar and Ramya Vashishta rendered lyrics composed by URA and selections from DVG's Manku Thimmana Kagga.
