A sculptor with a blend of the traditional and contemporary art is how Dr. Chiranjeev Singh, former Ambassador to UNESCO described sculptor Smt. Kanaka Murthy. Dr. Singh was speaking at a function in Bhavan where "Howde? Idu Naane", an autobiography of the sculptor was released.
Declaring that the book was a rare contribution in the field of fine arts, he said that it was significant that though she had no family background in sculpting, Kanaka Murthy had made a mark in a field which had little scope for women.
Smt. Sudha Murthy, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation, who was chief guest on the occasion, observed that Kanaka Murthy has tread in that challenging realm, dedicating herself to fine arts.
Kum. Sumati N, Hindustani vocalist and daughter of Kanaka Murthy, made touching references on the life and works of her mother.
Ft. Lieutenant Bhaktavatsala Sharma was a distinguished guest in the gathering which included among others Shri. N. Ramanuja, Chairman of the Kendra, Shri. H. N. Suresh, Director, BVB and Shri Narayana Murthy.
