The passing away of musical maestro Vidwan R. K. Srikantan on Feb. 17, 2014, a month after his 94th birthday, has caused great sadness to the Bangalore Kendra of Bhavan. He was not only a close associate of the Kendra, almost since its inception, but a real mentor to both the Bhavanites and the members of the audience.
Srikantan took a keen interest not only in programmes related to music but almost all events and celebrations under the Bhavan auspices.
Besides conducting very useful workshops for the benefit of aspirants on various aspects of music, he evinced keen interest in the Kendra's Kala Bharati with particular reference to its section dealing with music-vocal, instrumental and percussion.
Vidwan Srikantan was equally appreciative of the Bhavan's contribution in the field of publications. In fact, its Pusthaka Bharati was one of his favourite haunts, often buying books of choice.
