A musical tribute to saint Thyagaraja was organised by the Trichy Kendra on February 10, 2013 for the second successive year in Trichy. A team of 31 leading artistes performed in unison, rendered the Pancharatna Kritis and kept the audience glued to their seat from the beginning to the end of the programme. City Union Bank Chairman, Shri S. Balasubramanian was the chief guest. In his address he spoke of Thyagaraja's legacy, which is the quintessence of his unique identity and is invaluable because it was a result of 'svanubhava' (self experience). He further reiterated that our culture is bonded to music and to protect our cultural values, every one should learn or listen to music.
The programme was compered by Nadawaram maestro, Kalaimamani S. Kasim, who introduced the heritage of Thyagaraja and explained the meaning, ragam and thalam of the kritis. A special highlight of the programme was the Sangeetha Nataka Academy Life Time achievement awardee Shri J. Venkataraman took the leading role among the artists who performed that evening. This was a rare honour for Trichy Kendra.
