A weeklong NSS Special Camp 2015 began at Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh on November 16 in which 60 students volunteered. The camp was inaugurated by Shri Bikram Rana, Regional Liaison Officer of NSS UT Chandigarh. He enlightened the students about the role of the youth in bringing about positive change in the society and the community. Volunteers were shown videos and presentations about the contribution of the NSS to the nation and were exhorted to imbibe the leadership qualities that the organisation exemplifies.
Under the guidance of Shri Vijay Pal Singh and Ms. Meenu Gupta, volunteers visited an Old Age and Orphanage Home 'Kartar Aasra' near lake Club, Chandigarh where they spent time with the elderly people and distributed gifts, sweets and other necessary items to the children.
A seminar on HIV/AIDS was held in the school on the first day. Shri Sunil Kumar from AIDS Control Society, Chandigarh educated the students and helped dispel a number of myths regarding HIV/AIDS.
Day Two of the NSS Camp witnessed an interactive session with Brahma kumaris in topics like Developing self esteem, Ways to improve concentration, Taking control of Life's experiences etc.
Volunteers will undertake different activities such as First Aid, Awareness programme on Drugs, in the near future. The camp is also planning to execute "Sharing the Warmth"- event as guided by State
NSS Cell.
