The Thiruvananthapuram Kendra of Bhavan held a unique contest 'News For Use, 2018', in May 2018 and the awards were presented to the winners on Nov. 24, 2018 at a function in Thiruvananthapuram by former Indian Ambassador to the UN, Shri T.P. Srinivasan, IFS (Retd.). The contest was meant for Bhavan's teachers across Kerala. The 'News for Use' comprised a variety of topics such as literature, personalities, authors, science, current affairs, etc. The teachers had to answer a question paper which had 100 questions within two hours. Each question carried 4 marks for the correct answer and a negative marking of minus 1 mark for the wrong answer. The test was intended to keep up with the tempo of the time, to test their skill and inclination to become informed about what was happening around them, and to transact that piece of information in an engaging way to the students. Second Runner up: Bhavan's Kulapati Munshi Vidya Mandir, Pottore, Thrissur, Kerala (Thrisur Kendra).

This innovative programme envisaged by the Consultancy Team of Bhavan's Thiruvananthapuram Kendra might perhaps be the first one of its kind. It is expected to be popularised by institutions across the country.
