The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan will celebrate the Sanskrit Day on Wednesday, 10-8-2022.
On this occasion, Dr. Gautam V. Joshi, the eminent Sanskrit scholar and well-known exponent
of Bhagavata Purana, will deliver an online lecture (in Sanskrit) on 'धर्म - संस्कृति - कार्य - कलापेषु संस्कृत - शिक्षायाः महत्वम (Importance of Sanskrit education in religious and cultural activities)'
during 4.00 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Dr. Gautam Vishwanath Joshi, popularly known as Dr. Gautam Shastri, intensively studied
Sanskrit, Philosophy and Indian culture at Tattvajnana Vidyapeeth, Thane (Mumbai); established
by Shri Pandurang Shastri Athavale, the noted Indian spiritual leader and founder of Swadhyaya
Parivar. Dr. Gautam Joshi has been qualified in various fields of Sanskrit education and holds
many degrees including Kavyateerth (Kolkata), Sahitya Shastri (Varanasi), Nyaya Shastri (B.
V. Bhavan, Mumbai), M. A. (Philosophy) and Acharya (Darshana-shastra) (both from Varanasi).
He studied Shukla Yajurveda at Sanga Veda Vidyalaya, Varanasi; and he was awarded Ph. D.
for his research in 'Mystery of Idolatry'.
Dr. Joshi is the founder-trustee of International Federation
of Astrologers. As an expert priest, he has been performing religious ceremonies, rites and
sacrifices, since more than 50 years. He has performed more than 265 Bhagavata-saptahaparayanas (week-long discourses), and delivered many lectures on Sanskrit heritage and Indian culture.
In his lecture, Dr. Joshi will discuss the various topics related with Sanskrit education,
and its special importance in the fields of religious and cultural activities including performance
of religious ceremonies, sacraments, rites, sacrifices, etc., understanding of their formula and
inner meaning from the concerned scriptures, observance of different vows, and celebration
various festivals. He will also elaborate the significance of Sanskrit learning for the performing
priests, hosts (Yajamana) as well as practitioners and researchers of religious and cultural
tradition.
