Letter from Shri H.N. Dastur
to Principals of Bhavans Schools
Dear Principal,
Now that the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutional validity of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, reserving 25 per cent of the seats for the socially disadvantaged and economically weaker sections of society, all the Bhavan's schools have to strive their best to implement the provisions of the Act.
Bhavan's Bala Mandir, EROOR was started in 1990 for LKG & UKG. As per the new National Education Policy we have introduced PRE-KG also from the academic year 2022-2023.
At present the unit is having a strength of 344 students approximately and 19 teaching and 4 non-teaching staff members. Equal importance is given to curricular as well as co-curricular activities. We ensure that each child learns through active participation and develops all the motor skills. The school primarily aims at building social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills of a child. The school begins with an assembly in which the prayer, pledge, exercise and meditation form the integral part. Children are encouraged to speak on the topic of their choice. This improves their communication skills and confidence. Rhymes, stories and topics that enhance general knowledge, vocabulary, concentration, listening skills are introduced regularly. Stories which enable them to understand and respect other cultures are narrated. Puppet shows and dramatization enhance their ability to work in a group, communicate ideas, creativity, empathy, socio-emotional development and conversational skills. Focus is given to inculcate values in children.
In order to improve their physical development children are trained by qualified trainers of a sports and education organization' EDU SPORTS'. With a view to create digital awareness in children, 'smart boards 'are installed in each school.
Teachers are given opportunities to improve their professional competence by attending workshops and training programmes. The English reader for LKG, colouring book for LKG and UKG is designed and prepared by the joint effort of our KG teachers which is printed in Bhavan's 'Mahila Vibhag 'and published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi.
