Sujata Parsai, a museum professional, art historian and educator, has a passion for connecting cultural and artistic heritage to the public. Currently, she is the Director of the Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Museum and the NC Mehta Collection, Ahmedabad.
In her talks she unravelled the secrets of textile treasure of India through exquisite examples and images. She also elaborated that Indian subcontinent was the world’s leading producer of cotton fabrics and textiles from ancient times as for cloth and human life were inseparable. The story of India can be traced through her textiles, with cotton as the key player. Its production, its dyeing and patterning, its trade and demand spells the making and remaking of global economies. Textiles or cloth could be considered the warp and weft of the Indian subcontinent. India’s culture, livelihood and identity are reflected in the threads.
