Vishwanath ji welcomed the panellists to the stage and introduced the theme of the panel discussion. He says that we have seen diversity as our strength all over India. Our country has many languages, religions, literature, clothing, cultures, different ways of thinking but they connect us as strength instead of separating us. It will be our greatest weakness if we separate ourselves in the name of languages, religions and others. If they divide us instead of strengthening and integrating they will become our unfortunate weakness. We must try to find out some solution that saves us from getting divided.

First panellist, Rajni Bakshi is a freelance journalist and author is a founder and curator of online platform Ahimsa Conversations, through which she explores the possibilities of nonviolence. She says that our country produced many films like Amar Akbar Anthony, which is indeed a great example of unity in diversity. Thus, we must not feel frustrated as there are rays of hope for accepting and connecting each other, e. g. there is no instance of any violence in last two thousand years in a locality of Cochin even though being populated by Hindu, Christian, Muslim and Jews with their prayer venue.

Neerja, a Marathi poetess and writer says that in the post-independence film and literary works the characters of all religions found their places to impress the young minds during the years of their growing reflecting amicable coexistence and bondage reflecting unity as strength.

Playwright Asghar Wajahat says unity in diversity is strong foundation stone of India upon which this large nation is developing and progressing. He points out that Loktantra, the democracy binds all the provinces together even though there are differences in costumes, food habits, living style, etc.

Sudhendra Kulkarni, a noted journalist with command in many disciplines of learning mentions that Mahatma Gandhi used to discover unity in diversity and vice versa in context of his vision of pan-India. Kulkrni states, “If we only focus on diversity and difference, then that leads to diversions and divisions.”

Ganesh Devi, an eminent scholar mentions like other speakers that 21st February is celebrated as International Mother Language Day, so this day is dedicated to all humans who speak all languages of the world. It is a very wonderful celebration of diversity.
