JIS LAHORE ... set in the bygone era of partition is very much a play of our times. While it recreates an era of nostalgic charm, after about 400 shows, it has been able to successfully put across the important message of brotherhood which goes beyond the evil politician and fanatic to make a difference to the common man.

In the light of the spate of the recent terror attacks globally, it has become even more imperative to drive home the message of 'tolerance and mutual respect' to prevent the birth of future terrorists. We need to continually remind ourselves that Lines may divide countries, but they cannot divide Humanbeings.

It is an acclaimed play, set in the backdrop of 1947 after the Partition of India. It is based on the story of a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore and is allotted a haveli vacated by a departing Punjabi Hindu family leaving behind an old Hindu woman, who refuses to leave. The play has been performed by Ank Theatre group under the direction of late Dinesh Thakur and acted by Preeta Mathur and others.

After the play, Asghar Wajahat, the playwright was called to stage to say few words. He says that the play is presented in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Kannad across India for it conveys the message of humanism and connects all humans reaching beyond all obstructions. It talks about the cross cultural understanding which is best conveyed by the female protagonists of the play.
