Launch of Websites

The Bhavan’s revamped website www.bhavans.info was launched at Central Bhavan on July 1, 2022 by Shri I. R. Khandwala. The whole site has been given a new look with pleasing-on-the-eye colour interface and smooth navigation and easy access on all devices. Updated information on all Kendras and activities of the Bhavan have been included. On the same occasion, Bhavan’s Journal Digital version, www.bhavans journal.com was launched by Shri H. N. Dastur in the presence of various dignitaries and heads of departments. The digital version has been launched on popular demand and is available on subscription basis.

Lecture on 'Guru, Shishya aur Shiksha' by Prof. Dr. Bharat Bhushan Mishra, at Guru-purnima celebration

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated the Guru-purnima on Wednesday, 13-7-2022. Dr. S.G. Mishra, Asst. Examination Secretary, and Shri Krishna Kumar Jha, Asst. Exam. Officer, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., and Shri Ajeenkya Sampat, Administrator, Bhavan's Kala Kendra, performed the recitation of the Guru-gita (from the Skanda-purana).

On this occasion, the eminent Sanskrit scholar Dr. Bharat Bhushan Mishra, Professor and Head, Department of Jyotisha, Central Sanskrit University, K.J. Somaiya Campus, Vidyavihar (E), Mumbai; delivered an online lecture (in Hindi) on 'Teacher, Student and Education'.
Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, Principal I/C and Asst. Professor (Advaita-vedanta), Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, rendered the Vedic prayer. Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, delivered the welcome address and introduced the speaker.
In his inspiring lecture, Prof. Mishra pointed out the salient features and richness of the traditional Indian educational system, and emphatically elaborated the topics like four pillars of educational system --- teacher, student, subject of education and teaching techniques; qualities, types and role of teacher; characteristics, types and duties of student; importance of education in multi-dimensional growth of personality; various methods of traditional educational system, relationship of teacher and taught; place of noble values in character-building. Profusely quoting from the Vedas, Upanishads, Dharma-shastras, Puranas, Epics, and classics on Vyakarana, Jyotisha, Tantra, Yoga, Ayurveda and Sahitya (poetics and literature), he beautifully portrayed a vivid picture of ideal educational system.

Seminar

Seminar on 'Role of Indian languages in Nation Building'


The S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai; and Central Hindi Directorate, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, jointly organised a three-day national seminar on 'Role of Indian languages in Nation Building' during 22-24 March, 2022; at S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai.
Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Governor of Maharashtra, and Chancellor of S.N.D.T. Women's University, inaugurated the seminar, and delivered the inaugural speech. Prof. Dr. Ujwala Chakradeo, Vice Chancellor, S.N.D.T. Women's University, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tiwari, Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, S.N.D.T. Women's University, introduced the theme of seminar.
Chief Guest Prof. Bhushan Patwardhan, Chairman, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Special Guest Prof. Dr. Om Prakash Pandey, noted Sanskrit scholar and Chief Editor, 'Rashtra Dharma', and Guest of Honour Prof. Murali Manohar Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi, delivered short speeches on various aspects of the main theme of seminar. Shri Shailesh Bidalia, Assistant Director, Central Hindi Directorate, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Ms. Vandana Sharma, Head, Dept. of Hindi, S.N.D.T. Women's University, compered the programme of the inaugural session.
Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, Assistant Professor (Advaita Vedanta), and Principal I/C, Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, rendered the Vedic prayer at the inaugural function, and delivered a talk on 'Role of Sanskrit in nation building', on second day i.e. on 23-3-2022.
Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, chaired a paper-reading session on 23-3-2022, and spoke on the importance of languages in Nation Building, diminishing rate of language education and consequent challenges.
More than twenty scholars including Dr. Mrs. Kamal Abhyankar, Prof. Prakash Chandra, Prof. Arun Hota, Dr. Urvashi Pandya, Dr. Madhav Phatak, Prof. Amrita, Dr. Hitesh Pandya, and others actively participated in the seminar. About fifteen research papers were presented at the various sessions of the seminar.

Lecture on 'Literary Approach of Research in Sanskrit'

Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, delivered online a lecture on 'Literary Approach of Research in Sanskrit', on 3-3-2022, under the special lecture series of 'New Dimensions of Sanskrit Research' organized by Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai.
Dr. Sapana Chinnurkar, Assistant Professor (Ad hoc), introduced Dr. G. B. Jani. In his lecture, Dr. Jani discussed the various aspects of Indological research and different approaches of research in Sanskrit, related with life of author, source and form of creative writing, psychology of characters, author's views regarding philosophy, society, and life as well as feminism. He cited many examples from the works of few modern Sanskrit litterateurs including Kshama Rao, V. S. Shevde, K. C. Dash, Harshadev Madhav, Satyavrat Shastri, S. B. Varnekar, Radhavallabh Tripathi, and others, and explained how modern Sanskrit literature is reflecting the present life and issues related with it. He also spoke on the changing focus of literary study of Sanskrit literature from the connoisseur to the composer and his surroundings.
Dr. Mrs. Shakuntala Gawde, Assistant Professor and Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai, briefed about the special lecture series, and proposed the vote of thanks.

Homage to Ramakrishnanji

Lecture on 'Importance of Shiksha (Phonetics) and Vyakarana (Grammar) in the Sanskrit educational tradition' by Dr. Satyaraj Regmi

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its former Executive Secretary and Director General Shri S. Ramakrishnan, on his 19th death anniversary on Monday, 14-2-2022. On this occasion, the Parayana of 12th Adhyaya of the Gita and Rudradhyaya was performed by the staff-members of Bhavan's Sanskrit Depts., and an online lecture on 'Importance of Shiksha (Phonetics) and Vyakarana (Grammar) in the Sanskrit educational tradition' by Dr. Satyaraj Regmi, Guest lecturer (Vyakarana), Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, was organized at the Central Bhavan.
Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, Principal I/C, Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, rendered the Vedic prayer. Shri K.K. Jha, Asst. Examination Officer, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., delivered the welcome address, and paid homage to Shri S. Ramakrishnan. Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Assistant, Bhavan's P.G. & Research Dept., introduced the speaker.
In his interesting lecture delivered in flowing Sanskrit, Dr. Satyaraj Regmi spoke on the importance of six Vedangas (auxiliary disciplines) in the vast Sanskrit educational tradition. He discussed the role of Shiksha (Phonetics) in learning the origin of the speech and the correct pronunciation of the letters. He elaborated the importance of Vyakarana (Grammar) for learning correct forms of verbs and words, formation of sentences, and deriving correct meaning of words and sentences. Quoting profusely from the scriptures, he underlined the importance of learning these two subjects for better understanding of the Sanskrit literary heritage and, also for its propagation.
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi proposed the vote of thanks, and compered the programme of the function.

Homage to Munshiji

Lecture on 'Sanskrit heritage and our duties' by Dr. Suchitra Tajane


The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its Founder President Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshi, on his 51st death anniversary, on Tuesday, 8-2-2022. On this occasion, the Parayana of 15th Adhyaya of the Gita and Vishnu-sahasra-nama-stotra was performed by the staff-members of Bhavan's Sanskrit Depts., and an online lecture (in Marathi) on 'Sanskrit heritage and our duties' by Dr. Mrs. Suchitra Tajane, Asst. Professor and former Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai, was organized at the Central Bhavan.
Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, rendered the Vedic prayer and paid homage to Kulapati Munshi. Mrs. Anjali Ambekar, Librarian, Bhavan's Library, delivered the welcome address. Mrs. Jyoti Jadhav, Assistant Examination Officer, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., introduced the speaker.
In her thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Tajane presented the vivid picture of the different branches of the vast Sanskrit heritage, and discussed the importance of the scriptural message for moulding the human conduct and performance of duties. She quoted profusely from the texts on the Vedas, Puranas, Ayurveda, Yoga, grammar, poetics, prosody, music, fine arts, polity, sciences, and other subjects, and showed how the knowledge of these is beneficial to the mankind. She also spoke on the modern relevance of the Sanskrit education, and various means useful for preservation and propagation of the valuable Sanskrit heritage.
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Assistant, Bhavan's P.G. & Research Dept. proposed the vote of thanks and compered the programme.

Special lectures on Astrological topics at Bhavan's Jyotisha Bharati

The Bhavan's Jyotisha Bharati organised online the Surya Puja on 19-12-2021, on the occasion of Uttarayana. Shri Jimit Trivedi, and Ms. Rupa Gupta, members of the alumni group of the Institute, respectively delivered online lectures on 'Saham' and '64th Navamsha'.
The Vedic prayer and Surya Puja were conducted online by Shri Chintan Joshi. Prof. Sharad C. Joshi, Vice Principal, Bhavan's Jyotisha Bharati, delivered the welcome address, announced the examination results and spoke on admission procedure for year-2022. Shri Rajesh Kacha, In-charge of alumni group, spoke on the activities and achievements of the alumni group members.
Dr. D. K. Daftary, Chairman, Managing Committee, Bhavan's Jyotisha Bharati, and Trustee, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, spoke on the importance of receiving and sharing of knowledge for strengthening the foundation of Astrology and any such other scientific subject.
Shri Jimit Joshi explained how Saham (a certain sensitive point of time) is obtained by calculation of any two cusps or planets. He elaborated the importance of Saham in the predictions related with the marriage and children.

Ms. Rupa Gupta spoke on the system of Navamsha (one-ninth part of a Zodiac Sign) and explained how the 64th Navamsha affects the health, mental state, and well being of people.
The faculty-members - Shri Seemant Maharana, Shri Kunal Vora and Ms. Urmi Pasad conducted the online functioning of the porgramme. Ms. Maheshwari Godse co-ordinated the online meeting, and alumni group member - Shri Rajiv Bhatnagar proposed the vote of thanks.

Munshiji's 134th Birth Anniversary celebrations

Lecture on 'Inter-disciplinary approach to the Indological Studies' by Dr. Pramod V. Pathak

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its Founder-President Kulapati Munshi on his 134th birth anniversary on Thursday, 30-12-2021. On this occasion, the recitation of Rudrashtadhyayi was performed by the staff-members of Bhavan's Sanskrit Depts., and an online lecture on 'Inter-disciplinary approach to the Indological Studies' by Dr. Pramod Pathak, the eminent Indologist, was organized at the Central Bhavan.
Shri K. K. Jha, Asst. Exam. Secretary, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., rendered the Vedic prayer. Shri Hitesh Trivedi, Assistant, Bhavan's P. G. and Research Dept., delivered the welcome address, paid homage to Kulapati Munshi, and compered the programme. Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Bhavan's P. G. and Research Dept., introduced the speaker.
In the beginning of his enlightening lecture, Dr. Pathak paid tributes to Kulapati Munshi. He humbly paid homage to his research guide Late Prof. S.A. Upadhyaya, former Director of Bhavan's P.G. & Research Dept. Dr. Pathak underlined the importance of the inter-disciplinary approach in the Indological research, and discussed the results of select research studies made in the fields related with the Vedic interpretation, tectonic movement on the earth surface, theories related with migration of rivers, volcanoes and earthen bunds, Indus seals, Vedic entitles, and myths related with natural phenomena. He cited various examples, and showed how these studies were carried out with the inter-disciplinary approach involving the several disciplines and branches of learning such as history, archaeology, linguistics, geology and environmental sciences.

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated Gita Jayanti on 14-12-2021. On this occasion, the recitation of Bhagavad-Gita was performed by the staff-members of Bhavan's Sanskrit Depts. at Central Bhavan.
Shri K. K. Jha, Asst. Exam. Secretary, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., spoke on Bhavan's propagation of the Gita, and its Gita Examinations. Dr. S. G. Mishra, Asst. Exam. Secretary, Bhavan's Sanskrit Exams. Dept., spoke on Bhavan's publications on various aspects of the Gita.
A lecture on 'Yoga and Education in the Gita' was delivered online by Dr. Smt. Pushpa Neelkantan, Principal, Bhavan's Yoga Bharati, Bhavan's Campus, Andheri (W), Mumbai. Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, I/C Principal, Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, rendered the Vedic prayer. Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Bhavan's P. G. & Research Dept., delivered the welcome address. Shri Hitesh Trivedi, Assistant, Bhavan's P. G. & Research Dept., introduced the speaker, and compered the programme.
In her interesting lecture, Dr. Pushpa Neelkantan discussed topics like the educational aspects of the Gita, eligibility of students, role and vision of teachers, devices of imparting of knowledge, Yogic norms mentioned in the Gita, total health and well-being of human beings, Pranayama, Dhyana, Samadhi and other Yogic terms, relationship of Yoga and education in the divine message of the Gita, and the Gita as a source of multi-dimensional studies.

Gita Jayanti Celebration

The Bhavan's Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya (affiliated with Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi) organized an online function for celebrating the Gita Jayanti, on 14-12-2021.
The function commenced with the Vedic prayer rendered by the student - Shri Luvkush Mishra. Dr. Satyaraj Regmi, Guest teacher (Vyakarana), recited few verses of the Gita.
The students - Shri Anjani Kumar, Shri Yogesh Pathak, Shri Bhavesh Thaker, and Shri Dayakar Dabke presented their views on the Bhagavad-gita. Dr. Sanjib Sarkar, Guest teacher (Advaita-vedanta), spoke on the role of the Gita in the spiritual progress of Sadhakas, fundamental teachings of the Gita and their modern relevance.
In his presidential speech, Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, Principal In-charge, elaborated importance of the Gita Jayanti, and valuable teachings of the Gita. Mrs. Upasana Mishra, Guest teacher (Computer education), co-ordinated the online function. Shri Ramesh Chandra Barmola, Guest teacher (Sahitya), compered the programme of the celebration. Dr. Manoj Kumar Dubey, Guest teacher (Hindi), proposed the vote of thanks.
