Shri. Jagdish Lakhani, Hon. Joint Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan felicitated the students of Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College on January 20, 2023 at the Head Office of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
The Cultural and Gymkhana student members interacted with the management team of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
The students representing the cultural committee and the gymkhana committee have consistently brought laurels to the Institution. The feats achieved by the students in the cultural domain:

7. Lokesh Prajapati. F.Y.J.C. Science student won the Silver Medal in the District level Taekwondo Competition.
8. Ashwin Jaiswal, S.Y.J.C. Commerce has been selected in the State-level swimming competition (400 m individual medley).
Another noteworthy achievement which deserves mention is that a student from T.Y.B.M.S., Shaikh Maula Ali Salim, was selected for the Mumbai University team for the all-India tournament in judo and also won the bronze medal in the Maharashtra State Olympic games 2022-23 held at Balewadi, Pune.

Bhavan’s Somani College

On January 20, 2023, Shri H. N. Dastur, Executive Secretary & Director General, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan addressed the staff members of Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College of Arts & Science, Shri Manubhai Maneklal Sheth Junior College of Arts & Science, and Jayaramdas Patel College of Commerce and Management Studies.
While speaking about the conception of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Dasturji threw light on how after being founded by Kulapati K. M Munshi in 1938, the Bhavan, over the years, has grown as an Educational and Cultural Institution par excellence.
Munshiji propagated the quintessence of the Bhavan which is an amalgamation of cultural, social, ethical values and a synthesis of science and spirituality. Dasturji spoke at length on the unique culture of the Bhavan.
Spiritual masters, philosophers, academicians, artists and statesmen have greatly appreciated the contribution of the Bhavan towards nation building. As part of this rich legacy of the Bhavan family, it is important for all to maintain harmony, righteous conduct, cooperation, compassion and respect for one another as these are the ideals laid down by Munshiji who believed in the dictum of Sarva Dharma Samabhava and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The Principal in charge of the College, Prof. Shantaj Deshbhratar, and the Vice Principal, Dr. B. H. Patil shared the stage with Shri Dastur.

Lecture on ‘Saint literature of Maharashtra and its role in public education’ by Prof. Dr. Baba Patil

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its Founder-President Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi (1887-1971), on his 52nd Punyatithi (death anniversary) on Wednesday, 8-2-2023. Dr. Shivgopal Mishra, Asst. Examination Secretary, and Shri Krishna Kumar Jha, Asst. Examination Officer, Bhavan’s Sanskrit Exams. Dept., performed the recitation of 15th Adhyaya of the Gita, and Vishnu-sahasranama-stotra.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Baba Patil, the eminent Marathi scholar, and Vice-Principal, and Head, Dept. of Marathi, Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College, Mumbai; delivered online a lecture (in Marathi) on ‘Saint literature of Maharashtra and its role in public education’. Shri Krishna Kumar Jha rendered the Vedic prayer. Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Asst. Director, Bhavan’s P. G. and Research Dept., delivered the welcome address and paid homage to Dr. K. M. Munshi. Ms. Jyoti Jadhav, Asst. Examination Officer, Bhavan’s Sanskrit Exams. Dept., introduced the speaker.
Dr. Patil paid tributes to Kulapati Munshi for his noble contribution to literature, cultural heritage and education. In his interesting lecture, Dr. Patil referred to the Nath Sampradaya, Mahanubhava, Varkari and other sects and spoke on the great contribution of the eminent saint-poets like Gorakshnath, Chakradhar, Jnaneshwar, Namdev, Eknath, Ramdas, Tukaram, Mukteshvar, Narhari Sonar, Savta Mali, Gora Kumbhar, Chokhamela, Janabai, Sena Maharaj, Mahipatibuva, Kanho Patra and others. Quoting profusely from their literature, Dr. Patil showed how these saints spread the message of equality, non-violence, compassion, and oneness of supreme reality through their devotional poems composed in local language Marathi, and taught people to uproot superstition, and social evils of untouchability and discrimination based on caste, creed, gender or belief. He also pointed out that the saint literature covered all the major philosophical and spiritual traditions of the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Bhakti, Yoga and Buddhism. He appreciated the gigantic contribution of the saint literature of Maharashtra, made to the public education and its moral, spiritual, social and literary aspects.
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, proposed the vote of thanks and compered the programme of the function.

Homage to Shri S. Ramakrishnanji

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its former Executive Secretary and Director General Late Shri S. Ramakrishnanji (1922-2003) on his 20th Punyatithi on 14-2-2023. On this occasion, Shri K. K. Jha, Dr. S. G. Mishra and other staff-members of Bhavan’s Sanskrit Depts. performed the Parayana of Vedic Suktas -- Purushasukta, and Uttaranarayana-sukta, and Lalita-sahasranama-stotra.
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Asst. Director, Bhavan’s P. G. & Research Dept., paid homage to Shri S. Ramakrishnanji, and spoke on his simple life and high thinking, patriotism, social service, and his great contribution to the growth and development of multifaceted activities of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, carried out in the fields of Sanskrit heritage, Indian culture, fine arts and modern education.
Staff-members and students of the Bhavan attended the function, and paid floral tributes to Shri S. Ramakrishnanji.

Founder’s Day Celebration

Bhavan’s V.M. Public School, Vadodara, celebrated its Founder’s Day on December 24, 2022, in the school premises, amidst great zest, vibrancy and elation. The theme, ‘Transformation–Unfolding Technology’, traversed the period from the prehistoric Stone Age to the modern technological boom of Artificial Intelligence. Bhavanites portrayed the technological transformation through a well-orchestrated and choreographed pantomime that left the august gathering enthralled. The event was graced by the presence of the distinguished chief guest, Dr. Ranjan G. Aiyer, Professor, ENT department, Medical College and Medical Superintendent of SSG Hospital, Vadodara.

Lecture on 'Contribution of Sanskrit literature to the Indian Independence Movement' by Dr. Hitesh Trivedi

Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Asst. Director, P.G. & Research Dept., Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, delivered a lecture (in Hindi) on 'Contribution of Sanskrit literature to the Indian Independence Movement', on 21-1-2023, at the two-day national seminar (20-21 January, 2023) on 'Importance of Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit and Gujarati literature to the Indian Independence Movement', jointly organized by S.N.D.T. Women's University, Centre for Indian knowledge, Sanskrit & Yoga, Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan and Hindusthani Prachar Sabha, Mumbai.
Prof. Dr. Jitendra Tiwari, Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, S.N.D.T. Women's University, Mumbai, delivered the welcome address and introduced the speaker. Dr. Amrita, Guest Lecturer (Sanskrit), S.N.D.T. Women's University, offered memento to Dr. Trivedi.
In his lecture, Dr. Hitesh Trivedi analyzed the concept of Svatantrya (freedom), and discussed different aspects of freedom struggle carried out by Sanskrit scholars through their literary contribution. He spoke on various Sanskrit works like Bhavani Bharata poem of Aurobindo Ghosh, Mahatma-gandhi-charitam Mahakavya of Bhagavadacharya, Satyagraha-gita poem of Kshama Rao, Tilaka-yasho'rnavah Mahakavya of Madhav Shrihari Ane, Vira-pratapa drama of Mathuraprasad Dikshit, and Mivara-pratapa drama of Haridas Siddhantavagisha, and briefly presented their direct appeal for attaining independence of India. He also referred to the foundation of the Indian National Congress at Gokuldas Tejpal Sanskrit College at Mumbai, on 28-12-1885. He briefly elaborated the importance of Sanskrit slogans like Vande Mataram, Satyameva Jayate, Ahimsa Paramo Dharmah, etc. used during the nation-vide freedom struggle.
Dr. Pukhraj Jangid, Head, Dept. of Hindi, Government College, Daman, compered the programme of the paper-reading session, and proposed the vote of thanks. About fifty scholars participated in this two-day national seminar.

Lecture on 'Indian educational system : some thoughts' by
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi

Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Asst. Director, P. G. & Research Dept., Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, delivered a lecture (in Hindi) on 'Indian educational system : some thoughts', on 6-1-2023, at the month-long Jnana-yagna (January, 2023) jointly organized by K. J. Somaiya Trust, Somaiya Sanskriti Vihar, at Somaiya Vidyavihar, Mumbai.
Dr. Mrs. Mrunal Bhatt, Head, Dept. of Sanskrit, K. J. Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce, Vidyavihar (East), delivered the welcome address and introduced the speaker - Dr. Hitesh Trivedi. Dr. Hitesh Pandya, Head, Dept. of Gujarati, Somaiya College, offered shawl to Dr. Trivedi.
In his lecture, Dr. Trivedi discussed the topics like etymological explanation of the words Sarasvati, Guru, Shishya and Shiksha, various types of teachers and students, their characteristics, different kinds of intelligence i.e. Buddhi, Smriti, Mati, Prajna etc., various methods and techniques of transmission knowledge, importance of repeated recitations of learnt portions of the syllabus. Quoting profusely from Sanskrit classics and scriptures, he elaborated the different concepts of education and its various aspects like -- learning, teaching, self-study and enlightenment.
Dr. Mrunal Bhatt, compered the programme of the function, and proposed the vote of thanks.

Lecture on ‘Importance of Manuscript Studies’ by Prof. Dr. S. Y. Wakankar

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan paid homage to its Founder-President Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi (1887-1971) on his 135th birth anniversary on 30-12-2022. Dr. Shivgopal Mishra, Asst. Examination Secretary, and Shri Krishna Kumar Jha, Asst. Examination Officer of Bhavan’s Sanskrit Exams. Dept. performed the recitation of Rudradhyaya and Shiva-mahimnah-strotra.
On this occasion, the eminent Sanskrit scholar, and manuscript expert Prof. Dr. Siddharth Y. Wakankar, former Deputy Director, Oriental Institute, M. S. University, Vadodara (Gujarat), delivered online a lecture on ‘Importance of Manuscript Studies’. Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, Assistant Director, Bhavan’s P. G. and Research Dept., rendered the Vedic prayer and delivered the welcome address. Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, paid homage to Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi, and introduced the speaker.
In the beginning of his scholarly lecture, Prof. Dr. Wakankar, paid tributes to Kulapati Dr. Munshi, and admired his valuable contribution to the publication of many unpublished manuscripts carried out by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. He highlighted various aspects of manuscript studies, and elaborately discussed topics like meaning and scope of the term ‘manuscript’; different types of manuscripts; materials, colours and techniques used in writing manuscripts; profession of scribe; various scripts and languages used in manuscripts related with Oriental studies; pre-requisites for manuscript studies; process of learning and training for editing manuscripts, and fundamental role and importance of manuscript studies in every field of cultural and historical study of any civilization. He cited topics of many unpublished manuscripts related with Dharma, Sahitya, Ayurveda, erotics, weaponry, as well as technical and scientific works, and appealed all students and researchers for learning the multi-dimensional study of manuscripts for better understanding the treasure of Indology.
Dr. Hitesh Trivedi, proposed the vote of thanks and compered the programme of the function. The lecture was followed by question-answer session.

Lecture on ‘Educational message of the Gita for teacher and student’ by Prof. Dr. Narendrakumar Pandya

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated the Gita Jayanti, on Saturday, 3-12-2022. The teachers and students of Bhavan’s Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya performed the recitation of the Bhagavad-gita.
The noted Sanskrit scholar and poet Prof. Dr. Narendrakumar Pandya, Principal, Sanskrit college of Shree Somnath Sanskrit University, Veraval (Gujarat), delivered online a lecture (in Hindi) on ‘Educational message of the Gita for teacher and student’, on this occasion.
Dr. Shivgopal Mishra, Asst. Examination Secretary, Bhavan’s Sanskrit Examinations Dept., rendered the Vedic prayer and delivered the welcome address. Dr. Girish B. Jani, Director, Sanskrit Studies and Research, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, introduced the speaker.
In his enchanting lecture, Prof. Dr. Pandya briefly introduced the principal objectives of the celestial song Gita, and its enlightenment of various aspects of the education. He analysed the role of teacher, his techniques for fruitful teaching, motivational and encouraging outlook as well as important suggestions and guidance for students for improving his focus on learning, as described in the Gita. He also discussed the topics related with various teaching methods, responsibilities of teacher and taught, and role of education in the progress and development of society, as preached by the Gita.
Dr. Ganapati V. Hegde, Principal I/C, Bhavan’s Mumbadevi Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, proposed the vote of thanks, and compered the programme of the function.

Hind Swaraj Quiz

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Bhavan’s Munshi Saraswati Mandir Granthagar (Bhavan’s Library) once again conducted an Online Quiz based on Gandhiji’s famous book ‘Hind Swaraj’ during the month of October 2022. To further extend its reach, the Quiz was made available in Gujarati too this year. The Quiz was hosted on the Bhavan’s Library website https://bhavanslibrary.org. 
The Quiz consisted of 8 Levels, each containing 10 multiple choice questions, designed to help one understand the book deeply and clearly. The Quiz was open to all and participation in the Quiz was specifically invited from various schools. Participants who completed 5 or more levels were offered Gandhiji’s book(s) - The Mind of Mahatma Gandhi, An Autobiography (in English and Gujarati), India of My Dreams (in English and Gujarati), The Essence of Hinduism—as prizes.
More than 1000 people participated in the quiz and more than 90 participants qualified as winners completing 5 levels or more. More than 250 participants completed up to 4 levels. Digital Certificates were issued to all these participants.
Considering the response, the Quiz has been retained on the website https://bhavans library.org to encourage more people to understand the book ‘Hind Swaraj’.
