Kochi Kendra organised YOGOTSAV-2023, a performance by the Yoga teachers of Bhavan’s schools, Kochi Kendra, and students of Bhavan’s Nursery Teachers Training College, Kochi, on November 14, 2023 at Sardar Patel Sabhagriha, Ernakulam.
The programme centered around the theme ‘Yoga for All’ and aimed to promote the holistic benefits of yoga for individuals from all walks of life. The programme showcased a wide range of activities, including a Skit, Nadanusandhana meditation, Yoga protocol addressing lifestyle diseases, Yoga-Qigong tips and techniques for instant relief from psychosomatic disorders, Smile yoga (Laughter Therapy), Super brain Yoga, Mudra Therapy, and Yoga Dance—a blend of Yogasanas and Bharatanatyam.
National Constitution Day
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, commemorated National Constitution Day on November 27, 2023, with various programmes. The event began with speeches highlighting the significance of the constitution and emphasised its role in shaping the nation’s principles and values.
A captivating tableau was presented by the students of Std. 6, honouring the contributions of the drafting committee, chaired by Dr B R Ambedkar. The Preamble of the Constitution was read out.
International Day of Differently Abled
On December 4, 2023, the student community of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, joined hands in observing the International Day of the Differently-Abled. Students of Std. 5 presented a song that left everyone awe-inspired. Students of Std. 9 performed a dance drama that challenged stereotypes, emphasising that one should look beyond physical or mental differences. The performers skilfully portrayed how individuals with disabilities possess talents, ambitions, and potential far beyond the societal preconceptions.
World Aids Day
On December 1, 2023, the student community of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, joined hands in creating awareness on AIDS. The significance of the theme for the year 2023 ‘Let Communities Lead’ was highlighted, thereby ensuring that everyone, everywhere has equal responsibility to prevent HIV.
An atmosphere of compassion was created through the skit presented by the students of Std. 7, 9 and 11, which portrayed the need for empathy and collective action to alert the society and to create a healthy global community.
Cultural Exchange Programme 2023
In January 2023, a novel initiative took root with the inception of a Student’s Cultural Exchange Programme between Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, and Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula. This programme was not merely an opportunity for students to explore a Bhavan institution in a different state, rather it aimed to underscore their integral connection within the rich cultural tapestry of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
On August 27, a delegation of 20 students and 4 teachers from Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, embarked on a seven-day journey to Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula. The meticulously planned itinerary, graciously provided by the host school, seamlessly blended school activities, cultural sharing, and explorations of the distinctive Kerala and Haryana traditions.
The enriching exchange continued as a delegation from Panchkula, comprising 14 students and 2 teachers, embarked on a week-long visit to Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, starting on December 2, 2023. The team was accommodated at the scenic Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management hostel in Thiruvankulam situated in a breathtaking landscape. Welcomed with open arms, the peers from Haryana were embraced by their friends, reliving the cherished memories forged during their time in Panchkula.
The Cultural Exchange Programme concluded with a sense of fulfilment and the shared commitment to perpetuate the newfound friendship, pledging to open up additional avenues for mutual cultural exploration and understanding between the two states.
Spirit of Giving
In a remarkable display of compassion and altruism, the Social Service Club of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, through its initiative Naam Onnu, in collaboration with Goonj, an NGO, orchestrated a meaningful contribution drive for Daan Utsav to celebrate the joy of giving. Enthusiastic students actively participated in collecting essential items, including clothes, shoes, books and school supplies. On December 11, 2023, the culmination of these benevolent efforts unfolded as the items were handed over to the NGO. Such endeavours not only provide tangible support to those in need but also plant seeds of empathy in the hearts of the younger generation.
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor celebrated Children’s Day with gaiety and fervour, on November 14, 2023. Ms. Reshmi Chowalloor, dancer and alumna, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor was the chief guest of the day. The prize winners of the Intra School Art and Literary Competitions, Vykhari 2023-24 held in connection with Children’s Day celebrations, were honoured by the Chief Guest.
The fancy dress competition for the enthusiastic students of Stds 1 and 2 brought a vibrant splash of colours and lively character portrayals. Keerthana Jayakrishnan of Std 2 captivated the attention of the audience with a unique and refreshing story which had won her the second prize in the All Kerala Bhavan’s Cultural Fest 2023, Category I. Ambika R of Std 4 enthralled the audience with a light music performance that had won her the second prize in the All Kerala Bhavan’s Cultural Fest 2023, Category II. An inspirational poem penned by Smt Euby Joseph, Faculty, Department of Malayalam, and composed by Smt Soumya R, Faculty, Department of Fine Arts, was recited by Rithuparna of Std 9. The students of Stds 3 and 4 presented a group song that had won the first prize in the All Kerala Bhavan’s Cultural Fest 2023-24, Category II. The students from Stds 3 and 4 curated a diverse array of entertainment programmes, ensuring a day filled with fun and joy for all the students, making it an unforgettable experience.
The Kochi Kendra, set the stage ablaze with the grand inauguration of ‘RAJATHADHWANI’, the XXV All Kerala Bhavan’s Cultural Fest 2023, Category V (Std 11 and 12). The prestigious event unfolded at Sardar Patel Auditorium, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, on November 18, 2023.
Shri Bijibal Maniyil, renowned music composer and playback singer, graciously inaugurated the fest. The evening marked the grand finale of a spectacular fest that hosted 23 events across 15 different venues. The prize winners were honoured with trophies and certificates.
The coveted winners’ trophy in Category V was won by Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad. Not far behind was Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara who emerged as the first runner-up. Adding to the glory, the esteemed Bhavan’s Jyothi title, a symbol of brilliance, was bestowed upon Kum. Revathy Narayanan from Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara. Mast. Vishal S J from Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, earned the prestigious Bhavan’s Pratibha title.
The Overall Championship trophy for Category I to IV was bagged by Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad and the Runner-up Trophy was proudly lifted by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor. The Championship trophy for Category I to V was also clinched by Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad and Runner-up by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara.
The school hosted a vibrant Navaratri celebration, bringing together the school community in a spirit of devotion and cultural enrichment. The event showcased a diverse range of performances, highlighting the musical talents of parents, teachers and students alike. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, organised the Navaratri celebration from October 15 to October 24 with great enthusiasm. Parents actively participated in the celebration by presenting soulful bhajans, filling the air with devotional melodies. The school choir mesmerised the audience with their keerthanam renditions. Teachers from different departments showcased their musical prowess through bhajans. The Fine Arts Department teachers presented a mesmerizing instrumental performance, showcasing their mastery over various musical instruments. Their skilful renditions added a layer of sophistication to the event.
The event culminated in the auspicious Vidyarambham ceremony on October 24, 2023, wherein a few children were initiated into the world of education by Smt. Mini K, Principal, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara. As part of the celebration, a special puja was also conducted.
The students and staff of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor took part in a variety of entertainment and informative programmes organised in connection with Kerala Piravi at school on November 1, 2023. The celebrations of the 67th Kerala Piravi included group song by the students of Std IX and Std V, ‘Bhasha Prathinja’ pledge, speeches, poems and a traditional Thiruvathirakali performance.
The Annual Sports Meet of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, was held on November 3 and 4, 2023, for the Primary and Secondary classes, respectively. The inaugural ceremony started with the customary parade by the students. The Chief Guest, Sri Tom Joseph, National Volleyball Player and Arjuna Awardee, hoisted the school flag and declared the Sports Meet open. Elna Elizabeth Praveen, Senior Sports Captain, administered the oath.
A spectacular array of programmes added splendour and grandeur to the memorable day. Over 200 students participated in the Hula Hoops and Yoga display. The honourable Chief Guest Sri Tom Joseph gave away the prizes to the little champions.
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, celebrated the Founder’s Day with an array of activities. A video depicting the life and achievements of Munshiji was presented in all classes. In order to acquaint the students with the great visionary, a quiz was arranged for the students of Std. 7. The students of Std. 6, 7 and 8 were given a portrait-drawing activity in which they were made to draw the portrait of Dr. K. M. Munshi.
The students of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, staged a skit depicting the factors that led to the establishment of the great organisation, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. To help students imbibe the fundamental values which have given timeless vitality to Indian culture, a speech encapsulating the life and works of Dr. Munshi was delivered at the morning assembly.
A poster depicting the multifaceted personality of Dr. K. M. Munshi was circulated through the social media handle, WhatsApp. An intra-class quiz competition for the students of Std. 8 and 9 and a PowerPoint presentation on the life and works of Munshiji (that was shown in all classes from Std. 4 to 12) added vibrancy to the celebration.
The Founder’s Day celebration at Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor on 7 November 2023 was a memorable event that paid tribute to the visionary behind our esteemed institution, Dr. K. M. Munshi. The event brought together students, teachers, and staff to commemorate the legacy of our founder and acknowledge his contributions to education and nation-building.
The celebration also featured an engaging quiz based on Dr. K. M. Munshi’s life, works, and contributions. The interactive quiz helped in gauging the understanding of the students about our founder. A documentary that portrayed the life and accomplishments of Munshiji, was streamed for students of classes VI to XII. A song was played in the school that paid tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. K. M. Munshi. The programme concluded with the students and teachers coming together to plant saplings.
At Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Tripunithura, on November 7, 2023, the students and teachers paid homage and respect to Dr. K. M. Munshi. A book review of ‘Pilgrimage to Freedom’ written by Dr. K. M. Munshi was presented and the students of Std. 9, 10 amd 11 visualised the history behind the foundation of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the association of Dr. K. M. Munshi in the emergence of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as one of the prestigious institutions in India. The beautiful art works done by the students, illustrated the life story, contributions and achievements of Dr. K. M. Munshi and were displayed on the walls of the school. An exhibition of books written by Dr. K. M. Munshi was also arranged in the school library.
Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, celebrated Founder’s Day with activities highlighting the key events in Munshiji’s life, including his birth, his education, his association with Mahatma Gandhi, his political career and his efforts to establish the Bhavan.
To engage students in learning more about Munshiji’s life, his ideals and principles, a quiz was organized for students of Std. 6, 7 and 8. A tree-planting drive was initiated by planting a ‘Lakshmi Taru’ sapling within the school campus.
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, was honoured with the prestigious ‘Vishista Haritha Vidyalayam Award’ worth Rs. 1 lakh at the Mathrubhumi-Federal Bank Seed 2022-23 Award function, held at the Bhaskareeyam Convention Centre, Elamakkara, Kochi, on October 27, 2023.
The award was presented by Shri S. Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, recognising the school’s remarkable initiatives in promoting environmental awareness and conservation. The event was attended by 250 students and 7 teachers from Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, along with students from various other schools across Kerala. The Mathrubhumi-Federal Bank Seed 2022-23 Award Function celebrated the dedication and passion of schools like Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, in fostering environmental consciousness among students. The event underscored the vital role of educational institutions in shaping a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
The Navarathri celebration of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor, was held at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi, on October 19, 2023. ‘RAGAMALIKA’, the musical recital, marked the beginning of the event, as a deep and spiritual aura pervaded the auditorium. It was followed by a dance drama, ‘AMBASTHUTHI’, which revolved around the distinctive forms of Goddess Durga, each symbolising the embodiment of Shakthi. The dancers’ expressions and movements conveyed the essence of each form beautifully, adding depth and meaning to the performance. Such Navarathri programmes are instrumental in enriching and preserving our cultural heritage.
Kerala CBSE Inter School Cluster XI Kho-Kho Championship 2023 organised by CBSE and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor was inaugurated by Smt Aparna Balan, international badminton player and Commonwealth Games medalist on October 18, 2023.
The two-day event witnessed the participation of 24 boys’ and 26 girls’ teams comprising around 700 players from CBSE schools around Kerala, including Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Thiruvankulam, emerged the winner in the U-19 girls category with 10-9 points and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor emerged as the winner in the U-19 boys category with 22-11 points. The first runners-up position was bagged by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Eroor and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar in the girls’ and boys’ category respectively.
Rajagiri Christhu Jayanti Public School, Kakkanad and Sree Narayana Public School, Poothotta bagged the second runners-up trophy in the girls’ category. In the boys’ category, Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Thiruvankulam and Mount Carmel Vidyaniketan, Kanjikuzhi bagged the second runners-up trophies.
