Navaratri Celebration

Bhavan’s Kochi Kendra celebrated Navaratri festival from September 26, 2022 to October 5, 2022. The celebrations were inaugurated by Sri. E. Ramankutty, Director  Kochi Kendra at Bhavan’s  Sardar Patel Sabha Griha by lighting the traditional lamp. 
Bhavan’s Kalabharati students presented Mangala Vaadya Dhwani and Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikakkara, presented ‘Devageethanadanam’ (Sangeetha Nritha Archana) on September 26.
Bhavan’s Kalabharati violin students presented Violin Vaadhan and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara presented RagaSudha (Carnatic Music) and Devi Navadurga (Dance Drama) on September 27.
Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management presented Twaridha Rudrarchana (Nrithasangeethika) on September 28 and Bhavan’s Munshi Vidyashram, Thiruvamkulam presented Deva raga nadanam (Nritha Gana Manjari). 
Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar Presented Devitri thatwam (Nritha Geetha Vaadhyam) on September 29.
On September 30, Bhavan’s College of Arts and Commerce, Kakkanad presented Andhar Jyothi (Samakaleena Nirtham) and Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir Eroor presented Varadha Mudra (Natya Nadopasana). The students of Bhavan’s Bala Mandir, Velloor presented, Devikhowthwam (Nritha Shilpam) and Bhavan’s Newsprint Vidyalaya, Velloor presented Varaveena (Sangeetha Sandhya) and Kaalidasanwekam (Nritha Shilpam) at Velloor school auditorium.
Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, presented Sapthara garasam (Sangeetharchana) Shivam Shivakaram Shantham on October 1. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Kalabharati Veena students presented Veenaravam on
October 2. Bhavan’s Mahila Vibhag, Gandhinagar  presented Durgasthavam (Nritha Nrithayagal), followed by Kalavaibhav (Sangeetha  Nirtha  Nrithyagal) by  Bhavan’s  Nursery Teachers Training College and Kannada Sangha presented variety entertainment programmes.
On October 3, the students of Bhavan’s Bala Mandir, Kochi presented Noopura Dwani (Nirthavirunnu). Bhavan’s Kala Bharati Students presented Sangeetha Nritha Samanuyayam on October 4.
Vidyarambham was held on October 5. Infants were initiated to the world of literacy by the Thantri after Puja and Prasadam was distributed to devotees. A large number of students, teachers and staff gathered for Vidyarambham.

We are One

As part of the outreach programme of the school, a new initiative ‘Naam Onnu - We are One’ was introduced by Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara. The aim of this project was to help people in need and to spread joy and happiness among the less privileged. The students of different classes contributed generously to the cause. They brought pulses, grains and other essential items. Onam kits were prepared which contained these 25 items and an ‘Onapudava’.
Under the supervision of the ward councillor, Shri Ibrahim Kutty, these Onam kits were distributed to the needy families around the neighbourhood of the school. Shri A. J. Peter of Germia Bertoni Palliative Care Unit, Ochanthuruthu accepted the Onam kits on behalf of his institution. These kits were also distributed at the Ambadi Seva Kendram, Thrikkapuram, Kottuvally and also at the General Hospital, Ernakulam.

Ramayana Parayana Competition

Bhavan’s Kochi Kendra and Malayala Manorama jointly organised the Ramayana Parayana Competition at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha, Kochi on August 12, 2022.
There were two categories of competitions for those between 10 and 18 years of age and those above 40 years of age.
In the children’s category Ganga Hari of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar won first place and in the Senior Group, Seetha Rajashekaran bagged the honour.
Director Shri E. Ramankutty distributed the cash awards and certificates to the winners. A Special Jury Award was given to Jaya Pushpan.

Koodiyattom

The traditional art form of Kerala, Koodiyattam was staged at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium on July 27, 2022 as part of the cultural outreach programme jointly organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra and Infosys Foundation.
The aim was to introduce traditional art forms of India to the present generation and enhance the enjoyment of Indian arts among the youth. The initiative intends to be a platform for art forms that are on the verge of extinction and promote them.
The Koodiyattam was presented by Moozhikulam Nepathya, one of the renowned Koodiyattam centres of Kerala. The story ‘Jatayu Vadham’ was depicted through the performance. The performance was led by Margi Madhu Chakyar and Dr. Indu along with nearly ten other artistes.

Rameshwaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan

A memorial lecture ‘Rameshwaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan’ - a tribute to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra on July 27, 2022 on the virtual platform.  The resource person Prof. Ambat Vijayakumar, Emeritus Professor, CUSAT gave a detailed presentation on the inspiring life of Dr. Kalam and his invaluable contribution to strengthening India’s defence and space capabilities. The lecture gave an insight on his life journey from Rameshwaram to Rashtrapati Bhavan and how he dedicated his life to make India strong and prosperous.
The lecture was live streamed for the students of all the seven schools of the Kochi Kendra. A poem penned by Smt. Sathidevi, former teacher of Department of Malayalam, Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad and recited by Shri Manjummel B. Mohanan, along with a virtual presentation depicting the milestones in the life of Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, formed part of the event.

Bharat Sevak Samaj Award – 2022 and Merit Day

The Bharat Sevak Samaj Award ceremony jointly organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kalabharati, and Bharat Sevak Samaj, (a national development agency promoted by the Planning Commission of the Government of India) was held in the Sardar Patel Sabhagriha Hall on June 27, 2022.
Five eminent people who have done commendable work in various departments of BSS were honoured and felicitated.
They were: Sri. E. Ramankutty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kochi Kendra; Smt. P. Vijayambika (Rtd. Dy. Collector), Swathi Sangeetha Sabha, Palakkad;  Dr. C. P. Unnikrishnan, Faculty Head, BSS Cultural Mission Diploma Courses (Dance), Sri K. P. Rajmohan Varma, Coordinator Kalabharati, and Smt. Divya C. A., Natyagriham School of Dance & Music, Mahe and Pondicherry.
BSS Cultural Mission in association with Bhavan’s Kalabharati, Kochi,  also gives Merit Awards for talented students who have excelled in Diploma Courses (Music, Dance, Painting) initiated by BSS Cultural Mission and Ernakulam Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan(in Bhavan’s Kalabharati), a recognised fine arts learning centre.
Kochi Kendra Director Shri E. Ramankutty  distributed the  Merit  Award  and Certificates to the  students  who were the toppers  in Kerala  and  secured  high scores in  BSS Music, Dance and Arts: Smt. Veena Subramanian, Medha Lakshman Rao, Hridya Ramaswamy, Niranjana Subramanian, Manuel K. Mathew, Pranav Manoj, Sriram, Adithya Narayanan, Nila Prabhakumar, Saraswathy A. Arya and Aryavrinda V. Nair.

Suvarnashobha

The inauguration of the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations
of Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, ‘Suvarnashobha’, was held on June 27, 2022. Shri Jagadish Lakhani, Joint Executive Secretary and Registrar, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai who was the chief guest, officially inaugurated the yearlong celebrations.
C A Venugopal C Govind, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra presided over the function. Sri E Ramankutty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra presented a brief history of the school, ‘A walk down memory lane’. After the inaugural address by the chief guest, the logo for the Golden Jubilee year was released. Justice Devan Ramachandran, Judge, High Court of Kerala and Adv. Shri M Anilkumar, Mayor, Kochi Municipal Corporation, alumni of the school delivered the keynote address and message of goodwill respectively.
Smt. Jaya Jacob, Former Principal and Coordinator, Bhavan’s Research Centre Kochi Kendra, Rtd. Justice K S Radhakrishnan, former Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kochi Kendra, Smt. Sandhya Sasi, parent representative and Kum. Kavya R, student representative offered felicitations.
The curtain raiser of the event ‘Samanvayam’ comprised a melodious welcome song and a mesmerising dance performance depicting the brief history of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
The inaugural ceremony was witnessed by 3500 people. Another major attraction was a helium balloon flown atop the campus with the golden jubilee celebration marked in golden letters for the city folk to witness. The year-long celebrations will witness various events catering to the different sections of
the school.

Annual Address by the Chairman

The customary address by the Chairman for the academic year 2022–23 was held on May 27, 2022 at Sardar Sabha Griha, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, T D Road. Shri C.A. Venugopal and Shri C. Govind, Chairman, addressed the teachers prior to the commencement of the new academic year.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Kendra committee, Principals, Vice-Principals, Education Officers, Research Coordinators, heads of the other institutions under Kochi Kendra, over 700 teachers from seven schools, six Bala Mandirs, Bhavan’s Royal Institute of Management, Thiruvamkulam and Bhavan’s College of Arts & Commerce, Kakkanad and staff members.
After the formal meeting, an induction programme was held for the newly appointed teachers as well as for teachers who joined during 2021–22.
The entire programme gave the teachers insights about the history and background of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, ideals and objectives, roles and responsibilities of staff in general, classroom transaction and management, teacher-student relationship, training, mentoring NEP and its implementation plan etc.

Get-together

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kochi Kendra hosted the get-together of Chairmen, Secretaries, Treasurers, Directors and Kendra committee members of all Bhavan’s Kendras in Kerala on May 15, 2022 at Sardar Patel Sabha Griha, Bhavan’s Kochi Kendra. Shri Jagdish Lakhani, Joint Executive Secretary and Registrar, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai was the Chief Guest. More than 50 members from various Bhavan’s Kendras in Kerala attended the meeting.
Shri Jagdish Lakhani addressed the gathering and emphasised on the importance of preservation and propagation of culture, values, social activities, welfare projects, Sanskrit, regional languages etc.
Representatives from each Kendra presented a brief report on the functioning of the Kendra and its units and also expressed their concerns on various matters. Shri Jagdish Lakhani assured all support, guidance and assistance from Central Bhavan to each Kendra and its institutions. He also had individual meetings with representatives of various Bhavan’s Kendras in Kerala.

Navaratri Celebration

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra celebrated Navaratri from October 10-15, 2021. Students of institutions under Kochi Kendra participated in cultural programmes like Carnatic music, dance dramas etc. on the virtual platform.
Vidyarambham was held at on October 15, 2021 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, T D Road, Ernakulam. The puja was followed by 'Veena Vadan' by the students from Kalabharati (Bhavan's Institute of Fine Arts).
The Kendra hosted an online workshop on Indian classical music, dance, Art & crafts - 'ANUBHAV 3' - in association with SPICMACAY from October 10-14, 2021. Nearly 700 students participated in the 5-day workshop and learnt these Indian art forms directly from great masters. After 15 hours of training, the students made a presentation on the last day. The event received wonderful feedback from the Gurus about the dedication and interest shown by Bhavan's students during the workshop.
