Mental Health Training Programme

A training programme on mental health was successfully conducted on January 2, 2025, jointly organised by NSS unit of Bhavan’s Sheth R. A. College of Science and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation at Geeta Hall, Bhavan’s Campus. The event aimed to promote awareness about mental health issues and provide valuable insights into maintaining mental well-being.
The session featured esteemed doctors from Narendra Modi Hospital, who delivered engaging and informative lectures on various aspects of mental health. Their expertise and practical advice helped the students and faculty members understand the importance of mental well-being and techniques to cope with stress and anxiety.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.

Road Safety & Jeevan Suraksha Project

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated the grand finale of the Road Safety and Jeevan Suraksha project at Tagore Hall on January 18, 2025 in collaboration with TTIBI and Infinium Toyota. A large number of students, principals and staff from different schools and colleges were present during the programme. Students staged a drama ‘Road Par Masti Nathi Sasti’. In six months from July to December, the project reached out to more than 10,000 students, teachers and principals, while covering 32 schools and three colleges.
The chief guest of this programme was Mr. Safin Hasan, IPS, DCP, Traffic and Mr. J. J. Patel, GAS, Additional Collector and RTO, Ahmedabad. Mrs. Jayashree Mehta, Director of Infinium Toyota, Ms. Amala Makam, TTIBI (Bangalore) and Mr. Asim Ali Baig, TTIBI (Mumbai) were present to encourage the students.

VIGYANUM 2024

Bhavan’s Sheth R.A. College of Science, in collaboration with the Universal Science Forum, organised VIGYANUM 2024 on September 21, 2024, at the college campus. This annual event aims to foster scientific thinking and innovation. To encourage maximum participation from students of different socio-economic backgrounds, no participation fee was charged, and prizes worth Rs. 25,000 were distributed among the winning participants.
Approximately 186 students participated enthusiastically, presenting their ideas through scientific models, posters, essays, and an elocution competition. The event was presided over by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Jayshree Mehta, a trustee, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the importance of such scientific initiatives. She commended the college for its dedication to promoting scientific activities. The audience were also enlightened by the speech of Mr. K. R Chaudhary (from Gujarat Samachar) who graciously attended the event and emphasised the role of science in the progress of humanity.The enthusiastic participation of students from higher secondary schools in Ahmedabad, as well as those from non-science backgrounds, was highly appreciated by the judges evaluating the various competitions. Winners of the various competitions were awarded cash prizes and certificates, while special prizes were given to all schoolchildren in recognition of their efforts and innovative ideas.

Sanskrit Yatra

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Ahmedabad in collaboration with Infosys Foundation, Bangalore conducted various outreach cultural programmes. Bhavan’s Cultural Academy, Ahmedabad celebrated its 100th Programme by organising Sanskrit Yatra—Nritya Natika on March 17, 2024.  
Sanskrit Yatra—Nritya Natika, directed by Sanskrit Vidya Pratishanam Charitable Trust and Ekalavya Sanskrit Academy, explores the evolution of the Sanskrit language and the changes in its form from the Vedic period to the present. It has made an attempt to inform today’s generation by combining Kathak, Bharatanatyam and the Gujarati folk dance Garba with the theatrical works of Kalidasa and Bhasa.
Shri Bhagyesh Jha, Secretary, Gujarat Rajya Academy, Gandhinagar was the Chief Guest for this programme.

Gujarat Kendras Meet

Bhavan’s Ahmedabad Kendra hosted a get together of Bhavan’s Kendras in Gujarat on January 29, 2024. Shri. Jagdish Lakhani, Joint Secretary and Registrar of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai was present at the meeting. Shri Mukesh Patel, Chairman,Shri Prakash Bhagwati, Honorary Secretary and Shri Gaurav Shah, Treasurer of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Ahmedabad Kendra welcomed the members.
Representatives of Dakor, Nadiad, Surat and Jamnagar Kendras participated and informed about their activities. The meeting was aimed to discuss the activities of the Kendras and to plan larger scale activities collectively across the state.
All the Kendras were urged to start communication and management courses of Bhavan’s Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication and Management (RPICM). These are one-year, part-time, evening courses for fresh graduates and working professionals. A couple of short-term courses, tailor-made for industries are also being introduced. All participants welcomed the initiative of bringing together all the Kendras and expressed their desire to periodically organise such get togethers.

Gujarat University Inter College Athletics

Ms. Mahera Siddique, a student of Bhavan’s Sheth R. A. College of Arts and Commerce, Ahmedabad, won two gold medals in Gujarat University Inter College Athletics. She has surpassed her own record of last year by finishing 100 metres running in 12.06 seconds; she has also surpassed last 10 years’ record by finishing the 200-metre race in 25.53 seconds.

Digital Library Inaugurated

Eminent Ramkathakar Sant Shri Moraribapu unveiled a statue of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's founder Shri Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi at Bhavan's Ahmedabad campus on the day of Ramnavami, March 30, 2023.
Moraribapu also inaugurated a digitised as well as physical archives containing over 16,000 articles written by the highly popular Gujarati columnist, journalist, editor and author of over 50 books, the late Kanti Bhatt. Bhavan's, with the support of eminent journalist and editor Sheela Bhatt has set up a memorial and a reading room dedicated to the late Bhatt.
The archives have been hosted by Bhavan's Harilal Bhagwati Institute of Communication and Management (HBICM) and is open to all for access. The digitised archives can be visited on www.hbicm.in and can be accessed in person at Bhavan's campus in Ahmedabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Moraribapu appreciated the first such memorial dedicated to a Gujarati writer-journalist. -œKanti Bhatt was one person who considered me a friend. He was always fearless in his writing, because he was on the side of the truth. He had nothing to fear. I am delighted that Bhavan's has decided to keep his legacy alive,- he said.
He also recollected some of the exchanges he had had with Kanti Bhatt regarding his library. -œHe had asked me to take its possession. But I refused as this should be best done by an institute. So I am really happy that Bhavan's has taken an initiative and hosted this. I am sure this will inspire youngsters.-
Speaking on the occasion, Mukesh Patel, Chairman, spoke about the importance of keeping the legacy of Munshi alive for the youth today. He expressed the hope that the statue will keep inspiring youngsters when they visit the campus.
Prakash Bhagwati, Secretary, talked about the manifold activities of Bhavan's Ahmedabad Kendra, which has over 3,500 students, spread over two colleges and multiple institutes. Gaurav Shah, Treasurer, requested Bapu to felicitate two achievers from Bhavan's -“ Miss Elavenil Valarivan, a Bhavan's student who participated in the Tokyo Olympics and who is a recipient of the Arjuna Award, and Dr Neerja Gupta, the former principal of Sheth
R A College of Arts and Commerce who has been appointed vice-chancellor of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies at Bhopal.
Veteran journalist and editor Sheela Bhatt appreciated the commitment that Bhavan's showed in hosting this collection. She said she hoped that this project would inspire similar memorials for other writers and journalists.
Memorial curator Shyam Parekh, who is also director of Rajendra Prasad Institute of Communication and Management (RPICM), spoke about the purpose of the Memorial and how it has been curated.

Fabric & Canvas Painting Workshop

A fabric and canvas painting workshop was organised between February 20 and February 25, 2023. The workshop was organised for a total of five days and on the last day a competition was conducted for the participants.  
A total of 32 people participated in this workshop and they made beautiful paintings.

Cultural Outreach Programme

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Ahmedabad, in collaboration with Infosys Foundation, Bangalore, conducted various outreach cultural programmes.
A drama/play titled 'Ek Mulakat -” Tagore sang Meghani' was put up on February 26, 2023, in the J.A. Auditorium. It was a musical play showing a meeting between two legendary poets, Rabindranath Tagore and Zaverchand Meghani. It was written by Mr. Brijesh Panchal, directed by Mr. Praful Panchal and was successfully staged by the students of Earthing Group, a theatre school which is constantly working in the field of dramatics.  
The play showcased a combination of folklore and folk music of Bengal and Gujarat, thus displaying the talent of Rabindranath Tagore and Zaverchand Meghani.

The Arjun Award

Ms. Elavenil Valarivan, the famous Tokyo Olympic 2020 participant in 10 metre air rifle shooting, is a student of Bhavan's Sheth R.A. College of Arts and Commerce, Ahmedabad. She has been awarded the highest and the most prestigious award by the Government of India in sports -”the Arjuna Award. She received the award from the honourable President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on November 30, 2022, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The entire Bhavan's Family congratulates her for this exceptional achievement.
