The Sainikpuri Kendra has a historical background. Brig MK Rao, an EME officer, after his retirement, formed a Samithi named Sri Rama Krishna Seva Samithi, and under its auspices, formed Sri Rama Krishna Vidyalaya and Sarada Devi day Care Clinic. He was a devotee of Ramakrishna mutt and was very closely associated with the then president of Ramakrishna Mutt, Hyderabad, Swamy Ranganadhanandaji Maharaj. Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya was started on 50 acre land granted by Govt. of AP in the context of the birth centenary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda in 1963. The aim was to prepare students on the lines of the teachings of Swami Vivekananda. In 1989, when Brig MK Rao felt that he cannot manage these institutions due to old age, he approached Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for taking them over as Bhavan's Institutions. Bharat Ratna Sri C Subrahmanyam, former Union Finance Minister, and President of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, visited Sainikpri and after all the legal formalities are completed, arranged for the taking over of all assets of the Ramakrishna Seva Samithi by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Thus the Ramakrishna Seva Samithi got merged with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in 1989. Thereafter, and the name of Bhavan was pre-fixed to all the institutions in this Kendra.
