Bhavan's Varuna Vidyalaya is a joint venture of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and NPOL [Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory] .The school was formally inaugurated on 13th June 1992, by Dr. V. K. Aatre, Chief Controller, R & D, Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Presently, the school with an area of 12140.56 sq.metre has classes from I to XII with student strength of 1000 and 55 teachers.

The school offers the following optional subjects at the secondary level (Std IX and X) along with the main subjects English, Mathematics, Hindi/ Malayalam/ Sanskrit, General Science, Social Studies:
To impart Value Education among the students the school has integrated Awakened Citizen Programme (ACP) and Satthwa along with the core subjects. Co-Scholastic subjects like Physical Education (PE), Work Experience, Yoga, Karate, Drawing, Dance, Music, Tabla, Keyboard, Mridangam, Violin etc. are offered to the students of Std I - XII.
Our school provide opportunity to our students to attend the Diploma courses offered by Bharat Sevak Samaj (BSS) to promote talent in various performing arts.
The inherent talents of the students are nurtured through a plethora of cultural activities integrated in the school curriculum. These activities include debates and declamation, theatre, arts, dance, music and craft. The school hosts an annual cultural event called 'INSIGNIA' conducted by the students of Std XI, which helps to develop their organizational skills and 'Vigyanotsav' an annual Intra-School Science meet is conducted to nurture the scientific temper among the students.
Bhavan's Varuna also conducts the Varuna Cup Volleyball Tournament and the Varuna Cup Chess Tournament. Some of the other activities include the 'SEED' programme under 'Mathrubhumi' which aims at environmental conservation, 'EDUMISSION VARUNA' for helping poor children for their studies.
The school introduced the Junior Division of 21(K) NCC Battalion, Ernakulam in the campus in 2018. The cadets attend the NCC camp every year and they get a chance to write the A Certificate Examination.
The computerised library boasts of over 10000 books. The well-equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer labs plays a key role in providing hands-on experience to students by applying their theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems. The school is also equipped with a well-functioning Resource Room with trained Special Educators and a Counsellor.
