Bhavan's Research Center (Microbiology) (BRC) was established in 2005 under the aegis of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and is located at 5th Floor Palanji Sadan, Bhavan's College campus, Munshi Nagar, Andheri (W), Mumbai.
BRC is an entrepreneurial venture instituted by the faculty members (Professors) of the Department of Microbiology at Bhavan's College with the support from SPJIMR with intent of bridging academia-industry gap in the subject of Microbiology.
With NABL accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, Govt. of India) and BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards, Govt. of India) empanelment as a laboratory of National Repute for its expertise in Microbiology, BRC has established itself as a leading Microbiology laboratory of national repute, with its expertise in the fields of personal and home hygiene, water & water purifier, food and environment microbiology.
BRC actively partners with Indian and Multi-National Industries, Research & Academic Institutions for testing product categories in home and personal care and water quality including evaluation of water purification systems. BRC has successfully written and executed research projects funded by Govt. of India viz. Dept. of Science & Technology (under water technology initiatives-DST-WTI), Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), Central Pollution Control board (CPCB). Its Research department is well equipped to undertake projects related to Molecular Biology.
In 2022-23, BRC has successfully developed a virology facility for testing products, published 2 papers in International journals of repute and impact factor (2.2 & 4.0) related to water & wastewater microbiology. BRC continues to represent on the Technical Committee of BIS (Food & Agriculture Division) and is currently also heading the scientific expert panel for revision of UV based water purification system (IS 14724).
