Pratibha 26 Classical Dance Competition

The Kendra through its ‘Bhavan’s Kala Kendra’, organised a classical dance competition titled Pratibha 26 on May 2, 2026 at Lakhiram Baruah Sadan, near the District Library, Dighalipukhuri, Guwahati. The competition was judged by eminent exponents of classical dance.
The prize distribution ceremony was held on May 3, 2026.
Shri Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary (Former Governor of Meghalaya and ex-Director General of BSF & NSG) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Mallika Kandali (Sattriya Dance exponent) attended as the Guest of Honour, while Mr. Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal of South Point School, Guwahati was present as the Special Guest. The programme also witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and eminent personalities including the Chairperson of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra Shri Himangshu Sekhar Das (Former Addl Chief Secy. Govt. of Assam), Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra Shri S. K. Roy (Former Secy. Govt. of Assam) and Prashanta Barua (Member of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra and a retd. civil servant).
More than 100 students had participated in the competition. The winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes by the distinguished guests, while all participants received certificates of participation.
The primary objective of organising the competition was to create awareness, promote, and encourage the younger generation to engage with and appreciate classical dance traditions.

Bharatnatyam Workshop

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Guwahati Kendra organised a 6-day Bharatnatyam workshop from July 7–12, 2025 at the Guwahati Kendra premises in collaboration with Nipun (Prarambh). More than 50 students from different schools participated in the workshop which was inaugurated by Shri H.S. Das, IAS Retd., Chairperson BVB Guwahati Kendra. The closing ceremony was attended by Shri Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Guwahati as the Chief Guest who enlightened the participants through his inspiring speech and also distributed certificates to the participants.

Cyber-Crime Awareness Programme

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra’s Centre for Senior Citizens organised a cyber-crime awareness programme on July 18, 2025 at Assam Siksha Academy, Hatigaon, Guwahati, in association with Lakhimi Nagar Mahila Samiti. A majority of the participants were female senior citizens. Shri Himangshu S. Das, Chairperson BVB, Shri S.K. Roy, Secretary BVB and Shri Prashanta K. Barua, Member BVB and Dr. Santana Kakati, President of Lakhimi Nagar Mahila Samiti were present during the occasion.
The SP (CID) Assam Police and State Bank of India Deputy Manager (Cyber-Crime) were present as guest speakers. An interactive session was conducted between the audience and the speakers, which was of great benefit to the senior citizens.

Sattriya Dance Training Camp

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra organised a 5-day Sattriya Dance Training Camp from July 21– 25, 2025 at the Guwahati Kendra premises under Khagen Kalita. Around 30 students from different schools participated in the training camp. The camp was inaugurated by Shri S.K. Roy, Secretary BVB Guwahati Kendra followed by an inaugural speech. The closing ceremony was attended by Krishna Kanta Handique National Award recipient Dr. Pradip Jyoti Mahanta as the Chief Guest who enlightened the participants through his inspiring speech and also distributed certificates to the participants.

11th International Yoga Day Celebrated

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra observed International Yoga Day on June 21, 2025 at the Kendra premises. The event was attended by Dr. Sanjive Narain (CMD Prag News) as Chief Guest, Shri Shyamal Bhattacharjee (GM India Carbon Ltd.) as Guest of Honour along with Shri Himangshu Sekhar Das (Chairperson, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra) and Shri S. K. Roy (Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Guwahati Kendra). Many senior citizens who regularly attend the Yoga Centre of the Kendra along with members of the Brihattara Bhetapara Senior Citizen Committee and Kahilipara Senior Citizen Forum participated in the event. Moreover, the event was attended by students, women and other residents of the city.
